Chinese Food Made Easy

Posted in July 9th, 2008 | No Comments »

Ching-he Huang’s new Chinese Food Made Easy show is a great guide to quick Oriental cookery. Broadcasting every Monday, she shows off her culinary skills to bring us a variety of brilliant and original methods to cook our favourite dishes.

I’m sure you, like me, have often received quite a filthy looking Chinese takeaway, but it tastes so good doesn’t it? Probably something to do with the salt intake and fat poured in. Huang’s technique minimizes the amounts of these unhealthy ingredients whilst not losing any of the flavour, indeed it appears to add some! This truly is a great guide to improve our Chinese cuisinary with her fast and delicious recipes. Beef and Oyster sauce was never so simple until about 8.52 on Monday night.

Chinese Food Made Easy

We recently added Ching-he Huang’s book, also called Chinese Food Made Easy, to our gift database, and it is full of brilliant recipes which she will touch on in the next few weeks. From traditional Fish and Chips China stylee to seafoods and such fascinating dishes as Spicy Sichuan (some kind of zesty chilli tiger prawns!).

The student cooking guide - www.studentrecipes.com

Posted in June 26th, 2008 | No Comments »

This quirky and easy to use cooking resource is the ideal source for the lazy student’s meal inspiration! Student recipes contains a wide variety, from meats to salads, pastas, even those essential party foods and original drinks that you probably have never tried before! Ever heard of looshness? Neither had I…a combination of sugar, oranges and limes with a dash of vodka, it promises much.

Pasta al Forno

DrinkDrinksBeing a guide which is not only for students, but written by students who send in their ideas, it is a mixture of typically youthful exuberance and creativity, with a dash of complete lunacy - citing G.Morrel’s idea for a £5 drinking night as the perfect example. Whilst his idea lacks originality or any kind of thought process, it will doubtlessly please some and that is the strength of the website. It is for students, by students, and therefore the vast majority of material will be ideal!

From the lazy pastas to those that combine the elegance that you may expect from an up-market Italian bistro in Covent Garden, it doesn’t let you down on the wide spectrum of choices on offer. Most importantly, for the less student-like among you, who like to splash out and have some class to your cooking, there is a ‘cook to impress’ section, containing a variety of thoughtful culinary delights! From teryaki burgers to cajun salmon, there really is something of everything, and it offers a choice that would be advisable to the general public, arguably wasted if confined to the student population!
